26.0 Things…and maybe a few more…

Apparently in blog-dom it’s common to post 100 things about yourself on your 100th post, but I’m way past that.  Seriously.

However, I think the tradition is interesting, so here on my 260th post (originally written on June 29, 2008), I’m going to post 26.0 things about myself.  Because, really, I don’t know if I could come up with 100 things anyway without feeling vain.  Here goes:

1. I’m a true red-head.

2. It bothers me that now that I have a daughter with beautiful red hair, some people don’t think my hair looks red anymore.

3. Numbers 1 and 2 may drive me to coloring my hair, but my last experience was quite disastrous, so it might be a while.  *edit: I color my hair now.  Every 2-3 weeks.*
4. I was born in Tennessee, and will always consider myself a bit of a southern belle.

5. I love football (college [TN and NE], pro [Steelers], even high school if I know kids), high school wrestling and NASCAR [Jeff and Jr.]).

6. I didn’t know a thing about wrestling until I started dating Harold and he arranged for me to attend a dual with his best friend from high school, Sam.  Sam taught me most of what I know about wrestling.

7. I don’t enjoy swimming.

8. I love to get up early when no one else is awake and get things done.  Read: TOTAL morning person.

9. I really like cats.  And while I used to be a person who just preferred cats to dogs, I have grown to rather dislike dogs.

10. I love my house.  If I won the lottery, I would do some minor remodeling, but I’d not move to a different house.  I love this one.

11. I’m passionate about Christian education and Moms (or Dads) being home with their kids when they’re little.

12. I really can’t stand Noggin - television for kids.  KaiLan and Dora drive me nuts.

13. I LOVE to paint my nails.  LOVE IT.  I prefer OPI polish.

14. I got a manicure once.  I’ll never let another person do my nails again, ever. (With the exception of Tara, in rainbow colors.)

15. My favorite color is green.

16. I wear white shirts almost every day.

17. I love to sing.  Especially harmony.

18. I plan to live to be 106.  If I die before then, it will come as a big surprise.

19. I’m a planner.  It has taken most my life to learn to embrace (and even love) spontaneity.

20. I almost never eat anything after 8pm.

21. I have a great memory.  There are pros and cons to that.

22. I love teaching middle school.  Science.

23. I miss my former life.  Before kids.

24. I love my kids.

25. I love pizza.  I could eat it every day.  The best is mall pizza.  Cheese.  Thin crust.  But realistically, I’m only picky if I have options.  Pizza is always good.  (Unless it’s some weird new spin on pizza that has a cream sauce, or funny cheese, or pineapple.)

26. Coming up with 26 things about me took me longer than I thought, and the whole time I was thinking, “Does anyone really care?  I’m an open book, everyone knows this stuff already.”  But maybe you didn’t.

27.  It bothers me that the title suggests just 26 things…but that was the original title, and I’m also bothered by unnecessary change.  So I left it and just added the addendum. Also, I think of other things that I should add to this list from time to time…so…apparently I’m a little screwy.

28. I love artichokes.

29. If I could be frivolous and completely unconcerned with practicality and economy, I would use a new bar of soap everyday.  I love new bars of soap.

30. I don’t like watching movies.  I haven’t for years.  I’m not entertained by them, I just feel anxious about all the things I could have been doing for those two hours of my life.  I can’t take that.

31.  I don’t wear black.  Really ever.

32. The biggest reason I don’t like for my kids to drink caffeine is NOT about them being hyper and wild.  It’s because caffeine inhibits the absorption of calcium, and I want them to have strong bones.  But I don’t usually tell people that because I don’t want them to stare blankly at me.

33. I do at least one load of laundry each day.  I almost never skip a day.  I say it’s because I don’t like laundry piling up, but really it’s because I like doing laundry.  It’s my favorite chore.

34.  I’m a touch OCD.  And sometimes I’m embarrassed by it.

35. I live in a very tidy home (see point #34), but I don’t really care what other people’s homes look like.  If you’re my friend and live in squalor, I don’t care.  It’s your house, live however you want.

36. I don’t like coffee.  At all.

37. I probably have more empathy for animals than for most human beings.  I used to lecture my middle school students on the proper treatment of animals.  Including spiders and flies.

38. I’m quite certain #37 was fodder for hallway discussions by said middle schoolers.

39. My college choir director once told me that when I sang my solo during our concert that he got goose bumps.  That is one of the highest compliments I have ever received.  Ever.

40. My brother Brad was told that he was the “closest thing to Jesus” a kid he taught ever knew.  That still makes me a little teary-eyed with pride.

41. When I send text messages, I always use proper spelling, punctuation and capitalization.  Always.
