Nebraska State Fair 2009

We went to the fair yesterday.  Much fun was had by all.  It may very well be the last time we go to the state fair.  It currently takes place in Lincoln, the capital city, just a 25 minute drive, but it’s moving to Grand Island.  Admittedly, GI is more centrally located, but the main motivation for the move was declining attendance.  I’m not sure the attendance will improve moving the fair away from the majority of the population of the state, but obviously, I was not consulted.  So.  Whatever.

It was still a great time.

We arrived just in time for the parade.  And for the first time in my life, I saw a baby giraffe on a leash.

A giraffe. On a leash?

We took time to walk through quite a few agriculture buildings.  Tara and Tim got to “milk” a cow.

There was watter in the udder. It was interesting.

And then Tara learned how to harvest wheat.  The man was really good with kids – he told her that she was going to pretend to be a combine.  She thought that was cool.

Combining wheat.

And then we took time out for dessert.

Those are pineapple whips. It's just pineapple ice cream with a catchy name so they can charge 5 dollars a cone. Heh.

Tara has cotton candy. She shared all of one tiny cotton ball's worth with me. And hoarded the rest. She's learning. That girl. :)

When we got back to the car, Tara said she was tired.  Actually she said, “I’m all stinked out from all the fun we’ve been having.”

Stinked out.

Indeed.

Excellent pictures!! I love the last one!

Yay for family fun! And I’m sorry your fair is moving…but don’t you know someone with some clout, some representitive, cough, Lloyd, cough, who could do something about that?

    Awesome!

Amen for being stinked out. Does ‘stinked out’ apply to only fun tired or any kind of tired?

  4. Brad says:

We didn’t have any giraffes at the Maryland state fair. I’m envious.

I like how Tim has his hand on the cow when milking it. Perfect form. Whenever unsure if a cow will kick, put a hand on her so she knows you’re there and don’t surprise her.
