Glorious new windows.

We had new windows installed on our 1938 house on Monday.  Twenty-five of them.  And they’re glorious!

The previous windows were original to the house.  And of the 25, there were only five we could open.  The rest had been painted shut.  In fact, we could only open four, until we decided we needed to get one open in the office.  And broke it trying.  But hey, at least after that was repaired we could open five.  And we had lived with that for the past five years.  Dreaming of new windows one day.

The day arrived.  Monday.

Here are the before pictures:

Front of the house. Before. Nice aluminum foil, yes?

Back of the house. Before.

Outside shot. Before. With the ugly aluminum storm windows.

And a few during the action:

Dining Room in process.

Living Room in process. The windows are set, but not trimmed. And that's the quiet blonde guy installer. I don't know his name. His friend's name was Andrew.

Living Room complete.

And…check out how awesome the after shots are…

It's raining here. So the lighting isn't great...but notice that all the front windows are OPEN!! WoooHooo!!

And the back windows are open, too!!

THis is the most notable after shot. I'll put the before shot just under this...

Just scroll back and forth to see the beauty! Glorious beauty!

Nice, yes?

And more details for Deanne…

They actually aren’t wood, they’re vinyl, but vinyl has come a long way, baby.  And they match PERFECTLY.  Awesome.  They are the kind that both the top and bottom sections tilt in for cleaning, they have double locks, and safety locks if you just want them open a bit and don’t want robbers climbing.  Or small children climbing out.  They open bottom -up, or top-down if you prefer.  The screen will slide either direction.  They have an awesome lifetime warranty - that includes free replacement, even if your kid throws a rock through it.  And they meet the government energy efficiency requirement for the tax rebate.  We used World of Windows in Lincoln and are now recommending them to everyone.  Because they are the most economical and best product for that price.  I did a considerable amount of internet and consumer reports research and these are a very good mid-grade window.  We liken them to a Chevy.  Not a Lexus.  One company quoted us a price of $38K for 25 windows.  Another company quoted us $24K.  We got these for $8K, installed.  Lifetime warranty, and stimulus rebate worthy.  And we are completely happy with that.  They are AWESOME!!  And we love them.  YAY for new windows!!  Winter will be a lot warmer around here.  :D

Wood frames, even! I’m so jealous! What kind? Are they easy to clean? Do they have those fun, integrated blinds?

MORE DETAILS!!!!!

Agreed! BEAUTIFUL wood frames! Beautiful!! Can’t wait to see the outside shots.

Poor quiet, shy installer. I’m sorry he had to walk around all day bent over to avoid his picture being taken…been there, done that.

Holy Crap! $38K to $8K. Were the $38K scammers? (Sorry to start my comment with this, but is was quite shocking)

The windows look great!! I am having my windows/sliding glass door replaced as well. I went with the vinyl also. You are correct, they have come a long way.

Thank you!! WOW you got a great deal! I really want easy-clean windows. And wood-like frames. And windows that open easily. The house that we rented when we first moved to DC had windows that wouldn’t open, like yours. And we used to hammer on the frames with a hammer to try to dislodge. Fortunately, we never broke one.

We have seen these windows up close and personal and can attest to their awesomeness. I am horribly, horribly jealous. I think I might go throw a rock through one of them to ease my troubled heart. ;) (Hey - free replacement!)

I second Curt’s holy crap. That is a great price for some very handsome windows. We replaced 2 windows and a sliding patio door for about 2k…we must’ve used the folks who quoted you 38k….do you think World of Windows would come to Portland?

Dang. That makes me really jealous. I won’t be able to get new windows for a long, long time. And by then I’ll probably need a new roof again. Stupid roof.

Congratulations anyway.
