White trash windows and Wednesday fun…
Clearly, I have no shame. It’s been so hot. And we made it an extra two weeks this summer before turning on the air…and then we did. And, then we got the electric bill. And figured out that it costs roughly ten dollars A DAY (!) to air condition our house. Yes, we live in an old farm-style house. It’s a four bedroom, so not overly big. With its original 1938 windows. And our bedroom has three big windows that face due west. With no tree shade in the afternoon and evening. So. I did this:

Yes. That’s aluminum foil. And yes, it helps. And yes, I’m embarassed. But I’m also cheap.
To help thwart my feelings of shame, we did this:
I ran through, too. And got my shorts all sprinkly. And Tara and Tim giggled with glee. And Tim shouted “Mommy, ‘gain!! ‘Gain!!” (Seems no child ever says the first ‘a’ in the word again. At least no child I have known.)

It helped the embarassment.
And every day we’re one day closer to getting our new windows…hopefully the end of July.
Tim is growing so fast! It amazes me to see these pictures of him running around!
What great pictures!! Oh to be a kid again! Or a mom with small kids! I wonder if my neighbors would I’m a nut if I got in my sprinkler by myself?? BTW: The windows look fine…really!
It costs $6 a day to run the sprinklers.
LOVE! LOVE! LOVE the windows! I had the chance to be in the room they are shading, and they are totally worth it. My hat’s off to you, m’lady!
Those sprinkler pics are the. best. Well done. The windows look fine, too. Whatever makes your room cooler, do it.
Great idea…I’m gonna do that to our windows tomorrow. Doesn’t get quite as hot here, but we don’t have A/C so it’s warm enough inside. And no chance we can out white trash our neighbors as their entire house is paneled in ply-wood. It’s lovely.
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Seriously? I want a picture of that house. Because… plywood paneling. HA!
Dear me. I’m still laughing…
Any chance the reflection from the foil could blind a pilot and bring down a small plane?
Love the sprinkler fun - good times!
You could do a kitchen-wrap-inspired theme all year round: aluminum foil in the summer, and plastic clingwrap in the winter. Just tell everybody you really like to cook and wanted your house to reflect that theme.
Just to clarify…I choose to call it frugal not cheap
Good for you Beth!!
