Patio. Revamped.

To make a long story a bit shorter, we have a brick patio space in the back of our house that we, quite honestly, don’t care for.  It used to be concrete, brick and railroad ties, but thankfully we got it down to just two different surface coverings.  Because I like uniformity.  And I married a man that does, too.  Which in the end is very good for both of us.  Because if we hadn’t…well…we just never would have.  But I digress.

It’s actually a great space, it’s on the east side of our house, so the evenings out there are AWESOME.  But the bricks.  Meh.  I really want an expanded deck, Harold really wants to pour new nice concrete in the whole space, but realistically, we don’t have the money to do either of the sort right now.

For a long time we had been contemplating pulling out the bushes (that really do little more than catch all the oak leaves from the neighbor’s trees, and generally take up space that we would prefer to use for something else) right next to the house.  We hedged on digging them up, because I always feel badly about killing plants/bushes that are perfectly good foliage…

And then I went to a garage sale yesterday and found this:

The whole set - just fifty bucks! I put a few coats of varnish on the chair handles and we're in business!

Which turns out, is something that both Harold and I have wanted something like for a while, but never talked about it specifically.

And that set in motion the removal of those bushes (so we could park the kids riding toys in the resulting mulch bed), and the moving of where the grill resides, and the general revamping of the brick patio.  And it makes me hate it a little less.

The bushes used to be where the toys are parked now. I forgot to take a before picture. So work with me here.

And the grill used to sit by the steps where the patio table is now.

And we cristened it last night with dinner. Just ask Deborah.

Until I can convince Harold we need that deck… :D

Nice! I keep wanting to do some outside dining space, but I don’t have a TV outside. How would I watch TV while I ate?

  2. Lauren says:

That table is just perfect for that space – and what a bargain, too!

I say ‘good riddance’ to those bushes, but then again, I’ll kill anything nowadays, huh? ;)

It involved a tremendous amount of poop. On my arm. And on Tim’s back and arm. And wrapping paper towels around him for containment purposes.
Because we were at Dairy Queen. Heh.

  8. Karla says:

That has even Arron and I many laughs and groans, all at the same time…

  9. Beth says:

My favorite part was probably the running commentary from the 4 year old in attendance.
    “What’s that Mommy?”
    “Is that poop, Mommy?”
“Do you have poop on your arm, Mommy?”
“Why is Tim’s poop on your arm, Mommy?”
“Is that poop on Tim’s back, Mommy?”
*gagging by said 4 year old*
“Why are you wrapping him in paper towels, Mommy?”
“Why isn’t Tim’s poop in his diaper, Mommy?”
“Can we get ice cream now, Mommy?”
