Patio. Revamped.
Sunday, May 31st, 2009To make a long story a bit shorter, we have a brick patio space in the back of our house that we, quite honestly, don’t care for. It used to be concrete, brick and railroad ties, but thankfully we got it down to just two different surface coverings. Because I like uniformity. And I married a man that does, too. Which in the end is very good for both of us. Because if we hadn’t…well…we just never would have. But I digress.
It’s actually a great space, it’s on the east side of our house, so the evenings out there are AWESOME. But the bricks. Meh. I really want an expanded deck, Harold really wants to pour new nice concrete in the whole space, but realistically, we don’t have the money to do either of the sort right now.
For a long time we had been contemplating pulling out the bushes (that really do little more than catch all the oak leaves from the neighbor’s trees, and generally take up space that we would prefer to use for something else) right next to the house. We hedged on digging them up, because I always feel badly about killing plants/bushes that are perfectly good foliage…
And then I went to a garage sale yesterday and found this:

Which turns out, is something that both Harold and I have wanted something like for a while, but never talked about it specifically.
And that set in motion the removal of those bushes (so we could park the kids riding toys in the resulting mulch bed), and the moving of where the grill resides, and the general revamping of the brick patio. And it makes me hate it a little less.

Until I can convince Harold we need that deck…
