To say that Tara loves ladybugs would be an huge understatement. She LOVES them. She collects them in her bug jar. Or in a bucket. Or in her hands. And she gives them grass and leaves and sticks and bark and a little (or unfortunately, sometimes a A LOT) of water. And sometimes cookies. And she doesn’t just leave it at that. She also regularly takes them out to play with them. She likes to let them crawl all over her and all over the carpet. When one flies, she goes chasing after it like a shepherd. It’s all really quite amazing and amusing.
A few days ago I was working at our computer and I overheard her saying, “Go. Go little girl.” I turned around to the most hysterical site.
There sat Tara with her jean legs rolled up past her knees. A ladybug on each knee that she was gingerly coaxing to crawl down her leg. She apparently was having ladybug races, and the bugs were too shy to race. As I watched, she grabbed another bug, set it on her knee and it immediately crawled down her leg. To which she giggled, “YAY!! She wins! She’s the winner!!”
Priceless.
Of course in my moment of marveling, I didn’t grab the camera to catch the photo finish. But I did get a few shots of her playing with them later. See:

Aw. That is just the sweetest thing ever. Please show this to her, since it’s the first thing I start singing whenever somebody shows me a ladybug. Favorite song!

Grace gave Tara a ladybug at Preschool for Halloween and did not even know she liked them! Have a great weekend.

She has little-kid-bug-catching powers! I remember being able to walk up to a butterfly and simply grab it. Now they all fly away before I get anywhere near them.
That’s because they hear what you’ve done to bunnies.
Sure, it’s all cute when it’s ladybugs, just wait until Tim brings in frogs, snakes and spiders. Oh yes, and boys don’t need jars or bug catchers….just pockets.
