Licking the spoon.

Tim gets it. He gets that when we make Canadian cookies there is always a spoon to be licked. He stands by my leg and reaches up as high as he can and pleadingly says, “Poon!”. And then does a little whining. And then repeats the process. Over and over.  Until he gets the spoon.  And once I hand him the spoon, he high tails it away from Tara.  As far as the east is from the west.  In our house anyway.

He’s become pretty proficient at getting all the cookies bits off the spoon.  See:

(Thanks for fixing it Lloyd!)

For kiwe:

Canadian Cookies

1 stick butter

2 cups sugar

1/2 cup milk

Combine ingredients and bring to a boil.

Add:

1 tsp vanilla

a few shakes of salt

3 cups oatmeal (the quick oats style)

1/2 cup (give or take) cocoa powder

Combine and drop by spoonfuls on foil.  For best results, eat while they’re still hot and gooey, with a spoon, straight out of the pan or scraped off the foil. :D

Hehehe I can relate. Any time Anna wants anything, she says “Up peas.” Lately it’s been said with more urgency and faster repetitions the more she wants something and the more frustrated she gets that she can’t get it – “up peasup peasup peasup peas.”

Awwwww! Enjoy all those cute sayings. But also enjoy when they almost act like adults. I am so enjoying watching my kids turn into responsible young people! They’re really fun to be around!

He gets it…he really gets it!!! Does he also beg for a beer witha poon of cookie dough? Like mother like son??

  4. Brad says:

Mmm… Canadian cookies… I should have those for dinner tonight.

Last time you talked about a food (cheese rolls) that I had for dinner, I ended up making myself slightly sick. You don’t suppose Canadian cookies would make me sick, do you? After all, they do have oatmeal.

What’s a Canadian cookie? Do they need a passport to get into the US?

  6. Peggy says:

You’ve heard of Canna Cookies, right? Same thing.

  7. Brad says:

HA! I had to google it, but HA!

  8. Beth says:

If only I could teach him to say “beer”. ;)

  9. kiwe says:

    I didn’t
    but
    I do now!

  10. kiwe says:

You are so sweet! Thank you for the receipe. I wish I was in your family so I would know all of these cool things too. Or if I was in your family you would make them for me! That would be even better!

  11. Lauren says:

No, no, no – teach him to fetch a beer. ;)

  12. Deanne says:

Um, guys, the first hit I get for Canna Cookies (and several hits after that) have a lot to do with HITS and not much to do with COOKIES. Has Beth made some big changes???

And when I googled canadian cookies, I got stuff with maple in it… Am I just on a different planet today?

  13. Beth says:

Heh. Well, Grandma Hummel may have been into harvesting from the ditches…it grows wild around here, you know.

But really, Canadian cookies are a recipe that is at least four generations old in our family. Could be the name has changed…could be the recipe has changed…could be the original bakers meant Canna and it all went to pot after that.
