Grilled Cheese.

I know.  Why would I ever post the directions on making grilled cheese?  Because who DOESN’T know how to make a grilled cheese?  Well, some day, perhaps, Tara and Tim will be hungry and will want to tackle a grilled cheese in my absence.  And here they will find their mother’s directions…without having to actually call me.  Or text me.  Or whisper in the microchip implanted in my ear.  Or whatever.

Grilled Cheese

Bread

Butter (softened)

Cheese slices (Kraft American)

Ingredients. And you'll probably need a knife.

Butter one side of one slice of bread.  Place butter side down in pan.  Turn burner on to 6.  Don’t go higher than 6, it will burn.  Don’t go lower, it will take too long.  Unwrap cheese slice and place so cheese it is all the way to the edge of the bread in the pan.  Unwrap second slice and tear apart to make pieces just the right size for covering the rest of the bread surface.  It’s very important to get the cheese all the way to the edges.  Otherwise the crusts don’t taste very good.  Butter one side of another piece of bread.  Place butter side up on top of cheese which is on top of the bread in the pan.  Let brown (3-4 minutes), flip and let second side brown.  Serve.

 Assembly complete.

Browning complete. Yum. Almost ready to serve.

To say that I love grilled cheese is probably an understatement.  Love.  Yum.

We love grilled cheese, too. But we make it in a sandwich maker. So we butter one side, put it in the sandwich maker, butter the other side, and then squash down the lid.

Oh, and then set the timer, because it’s easy to forget! (unless you’re really hungry!)

I don’t think I’ve ever seen such “humpy” bread. Is that how bread naturally looks in Nebraska, or were you trying to make a cute camel sandwhich for the kids?

(Your grilled cheese looks absolutely scrumptous…I’d love to bite into it, except for the cheese)

Mmmm grilled cheese is good, but as good (maybe better) is grilled peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

Oh…..I know of a grilled ham (or turkey) and cheese that is excellent. It includes brie and gelled cranberry juice all on rye bread. We had this for lunch at YT’s firehouse. One of the firemen knew how to make it. I have made it myself a couple of times. It is awesome!!

That piece of bread looks like a capital B! It’s made for Brad! Mmm… grilled cheese…

Is it a commentary on my laziness that I order these from the grill joint across the street instead of making them myself? But there is something different about a grilled cheese cooked on the same surface as cheesesteaks and hamburgers.

I had a Zorba’s grilled cheese last night. With french fries. You don’t think that was bad for my cholesterol, do you?

No. No, no, no. Now, every night might be a different story.

Drink a cup of melted lard as a chaser and you’ll be just fine. :)

The french fries cancel out the cheese. Just like a polio shot, you combat cholesterol with more cholesterol.

absolutely.
