The zoo.

Harold had a rain day.  It’s one of the perks of working for a landscaper during the summer.  Rain days.  Glorious rain days.

Normally on rain days we just putz around and more or less waste the day at home, but today I felt ambitious.  So I talked him into driving up to Omaha to the Henry Doorly Zoo (a most excellent zoo, by the way).  It was our first time to the zoo with Tim.  YAY!

Fortunately, it was a Wednesday, so there were very few people there.  No lines.  Not crowded.  Excellent.

Tara’s favorites were the elephants, butterfly house, and the tigers.  She was also fond of the big tapirs in the Leid Jungle.

Tara's favorite.

Swinging on the swinging vine was a close second.

Looking at the Tapir. And I wanted a back of the head shot for Peggy.

Smiley in the jungle.

Tim’s favorite was most certainly the Aquarium.  Partly because he could walk around a whole lot (not crowded, carpeted and air conditioned…it hit about 95 here today, I think. Ug.), and partly because he could walk right up to the glass and fish, turtles, rays and penguins all swam up to greet him.  He loved it.

Look at his cute little hand :).

 Loved them.

What a great day!! I’m so glad you got to get out – especially to that zoo. And look at your aquarium shots! There are NO PEOPLE around. I’ve only been a couple of times, and each time it was so crowded it almost wasn’t worth it.

We’ve never been to that zoo; I think we’ve always been too busy when we’ve been in the Iowa/Nebraska area. I’ve heard it’s wonderful. And now I’ve heard it again!

I had to google what a tapir was, and this was the first image I saw:

Yup. Ugly, huh? Their noses are long and quite disturbing. In the picture the one Tara’s looking at is way down on the ground surrounded by black and white birds (I can’t remember what kind they were).

I LOVE zoos! What a great way to spend the day! And thanks for introducing me to a new animal … odd looking as it is. Look how cute they are as babies (they lose their stripes as they grow). Don’t tell the babies their eventual appearance fate … shhhh!

(And thanks for the back of head shot … awesome…you can tell she’s looking at something … interesting)

We went there Tuesday when we took Charles to the airport. The aquarium is definitely my favorite. I got a great shot of the girls there. I’ll try to remember to show you. We got there right at opening (8:30) when it was relatively cool and uncrowded. Very nice.
