Pay it Forward.

I regularly lurk on a site that is doing something I LOVE.  LOVE.  It’s http://www.swistle.blogspot.com/ and the author not only makes me laugh, she makes me feel like I’m having a conversation with myself.  She writes just the way I speak (which is a complete talent, it’s awesome).  At least that’s the way I think I speak - I sound that way to me, anyway…

I digress.

I’m joining in a “Pay it Forward” event.  Here’s how it works…

I am going to send a most fablous gift box to one person who comments on my site between now and July 4.  It will be a surprise gift, custom made for the winner ***ALL CUSTOM ASSEMBLED GIFTS WILL CONTAIN CHOCOLATE…BECAUSE EVERYONE SHOULD TRY THE CHOCOLATE FROM THIS LITTLE PLACE IN NEBRASKA THAT I LOVE.  EVERYONE***  (Doesn’t that make you want to enter?? :D ).  All you have to do to enter is leave a comment.  How easy is that?  On July 4 (midnight Central), all the people who have left a comment will be entered into my drawing.  I’ll draw a name, and send the winner a fun package in the mail.  (Actually, I’m going to try a random number generator program and select someone by using his/her comment number, but really I might just throw everyone’s names in a hat and pull one out, because seriously, there are only 6 of you who ever come here.  Either way, someone wins, right?)  YAY!

Once I have assembled and mailed the surprise package, the winner needs to “Pay it Forward”.  The winner now has a contest of his/her very own.  If the winner has a website, s/he can put up a similar post as mine and continue the cycle.  If the winner does not have a website, s/he can send out an email to everyone in his/her address book, set a deadline for emailing back (even encourage forwarding of the email so more people enter), and choose from the list of friends who emailed back in the given time.  Or heck, just do something nice for someone unexpectedly.  However you want to do it,  “Pay it Forward”.  We need more good things going on in this world, for real.

(As a side note, and to be honest, when I first read about this I thought, *shrug, meh.*, and then I thought, that sounds like w.o.r.k.  And then I thought, what if MY winner doesn’t pay it forward?  And then, I reconsidered.  I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE getting gifts for people.  It’s one of the joys in my life to buy things for other people.  LOVE IT.  Going to basically one income when Tara was born really limited the fundage for doing such, and I miss it terribly, so still anytime I have a little extra cash, I’m buying something for someone.  LOVE.  I also think something like this is just what we need.  A little something for nothing, grace activity to spurn us into doing something for someone else for nothing.  We need more of that in this world.  So, if you had the very same thought and hesitate to enter because then you’ll have to pay it forward yourself, reconsider.  Period.  Getting off soapbox now.)

So, want to enter?  Just leave a comment.  And if you have no idea what to say in your comment, how about answering this question:

When you get in the shower/tub, what part gets washed first?

(Oh, and if your comment doesn’t show up right away, don’t sweat it.  To keep the spammers at bay, I have to approve comments.  Until approval they’ll be in moderation…but I check my email about a gazillion times a day so I’ll approve you, just wait. :D )

That's about the coolest shower ever. If it wasn't in the middle of the yard. Good grief.

I can’t remember what I wash first, but I always wash my face last.

Comment by Mary O on June 30, 2008 at 11:22 pm

I start with my hair and work my way down!

Comment by Beth on July 1, 2008 at 6:42 am

I’ll go first. To break the ice, and so I don’t look like the nerdy kid who tried to fit in with the popular girls and failed miserably! You should go to www.swistle.com. You can’t believe the number of people doing this on their websites! Amazing!

I wash my face.

Comment by Michele on July 1, 2008 at 7:12 am

Hair first. I work my way down from there.

I love that shower in the yard! It would be great for sweaty husbands or sons after they cut grass or do yard work. Then they would’t have to come into the house all smelly!

Comment by Missy on July 1, 2008 at 7:45 am

I do hair first as well. Actually no, I clean my teeth first. In the shower. That’s weird, right?

Comment by MzEll on July 1, 2008 at 7:54 am

I scrub my face first. Refreshing! Ha!

Comment by Lauren on July 1, 2008 at 7:59 am

Is the shower the prize? While I love it, I’d be a little self-conscious bathing in the yard (hair first, as is my custom). Plus, I think the neighbors would all move. :)

Comment by Michele on July 1, 2008 at 10:32 am

Wouldn’t it be cool if a Skee Ball thingy was the prize?

Comment by Lauren on July 1, 2008 at 12:03 pm

I think she snuck one out, so perhaps! Perhaps!

I missed your question, so I was wondering why the heck you had a picture of a shower. Ha!

I wash my left elbow first. Just kidding. I wash my hair first. Or maybe I should say I wash my head. I don’t have much hair to speak of.

Comment by Peggy on July 1, 2008 at 11:56 am

HA!!!! left elbow…LOL!!! (thank you)

Comment by Lorraine T. on July 1, 2008 at 8:24 am

Hmm…hair gets wet, then if I’m washing it, washed. Otherwise pits and bits.

Comment by Lauren on July 1, 2008 at 9:31 am

Ha - ‘pits and bits’. (I wash my bits last.)

Comment by Deanne on July 1, 2008 at 8:29 am

Hair first, definitely. I have to get to the conditioner as quickly as possible so it has time to sink in.

So, if you use a random number generator, does that mean if we comment more often, we’ll be more likely to win the fabulous, wonderful, custom-made prize?

How exciting!

Comment by Peggy on July 1, 2008 at 10:29 am

Are you supposed to wash in the shower, d’oh? (Hair of course.)

Now back to singing my current life’s theme song: (safe)

Comment by JenniferB on July 1, 2008 at 11:39 am

I always wash my hair first — I have to do a long head scrub and then I can get down to business. :)

Comment by Fiona Picklebottom on July 1, 2008 at 12:00 pm

Hair first. That way the conditioner can soak in while I wash everything else.

Comment by emily on July 1, 2008 at 12:38 pm

Hair gets washed first, usually.

Comment by Parkingathome on July 1, 2008 at 1:23 pm

Shower protocol goes thus:
Shampoo, rinse
Conditioner, leave in while
face wash and over exfoliate
rinse face, rinse conditioner
body wash

If it doesn’t happen this way, the world ends.

Comment by Stacy on July 1, 2008 at 1:32 pm

I start at the bottom (no pun intended) and work my way up :)

Comment by Karla on July 1, 2008 at 1:45 pm

I start with my hair first as well, then work my way down, then back to the head (to rinse off the conditioner).

Incidently, don’t include me in the prize - I know me and I’ll try to pay it forward, but then it won’t happen. I’d like to say it’s because I’m so busy and things will get better, but that probably won’t be until I’m 90.

Comment by Deanne on July 1, 2008 at 3:44 pm

I think Karla really needs it and I’m sure she’ll do lots of nice things for people, which may or may not include something that gets physically sent, and she should not be excluded!

Comment by Karla on July 1, 2008 at 4:47 pm

HUSH DEANNE!! You’re going to ruin my great reveal!! ;)

Comment by Heather on July 1, 2008 at 2:13 pm

You had me at chocolate.

I wash my hair first…I have to have a towel handy because I don’t like to get my face wet. Yes, I’m a little strange. Thanks for noticing!

Comment by Nicole on July 1, 2008 at 2:29 pm

Comment by dynamita on July 1, 2008 at 2:39 pm

Hi I live in London but would like to enter the contest. I hope this is okay! I wash my hair first, if not washing hair, my left arm.

Comment by Janice on July 1, 2008 at 3:45 pm

Hair, then face, then body

Comment by Playful Professional on July 1, 2008 at 5:09 pm

My hair. I step in and let the hot water fall on my hair. Love it.

Comment by Miss Grace on July 1, 2008 at 5:49 pm

I shampoo my hair, then put conditioner in my hair, which I leave in while I wash everything else, then I rinse the conditioner.

Comment by Jill on July 1, 2008 at 8:00 pm

Well done, Beth. Check out all the lurkers on YOUR site!! :-)

Count me in among the hair washers…

Comment by Erica on July 1, 2008 at 9:23 pm

Hi Beth!

I start with my hair.

Comment by Caley on July 1, 2008 at 10:13 pm

Always wash the hair first so the conditioner has time to work its magic whilst I clean the rest of myself. Then face, then body. I would feel weird doing it in any other order!

Comment by Susan on July 2, 2008 at 9:43 am

I’m on sabbatical with Russ but couldn’t resist the opportunity to weigh in…

For me…eyelashes! (I have a weird eye thing and they require special attention.) =]

Shampoo, soap, rinse, shave, rinse hair, conditioner, wash face, rinse, done.

Comment by Clover on July 2, 2008 at 2:21 pm

What a fun idea, Bef. As you can guess, with my hydrophobia, face is last. First, I wash my body, body. From the neck down.

Comment by jenny on July 2, 2008 at 2:55 pm

head, then shoulders, knees and toes. :)

Comment by EMama on July 2, 2008 at 3:53 pm

Comment by Mary R. on July 2, 2008 at 8:19 pm

Hey Bef!! That is a good idea!! I always wash my face first, then the bod, then the hair. I need to visit your site more! I love it!

Comment by Catherine Ethington on July 3, 2008 at 11:33 am

I always wash my hair first so that I can let the conditioner sit in my hair while I wash the rest of me.

Comment by houndrat on July 3, 2008 at 12:40 pm

I detest washing my hair, so I get that over with first. Then I can relax and enjoy the last thirty seconds of my shower, before my kids get me out!

Comment by Misty on July 3, 2008 at 3:12 pm

Face then hair. Doesn’t everyone?

Comment by chraycee on July 3, 2008 at 6:37 pm

I always wash my hair first - I wash from the top down - figuring any grime will run downward, so washing from the bottom up would make no sense as the clean areas would end up dirty again. Anal much?

Comment by Ginny on July 3, 2008 at 7:05 pm

I shampoo my hair first, that way I can leave the conditioner on while I do everything else for super soft hair!

Comment by Laura on July 3, 2008 at 9:55 pm

Oh, pits & bits is FUNNY!
I wash from head to toe. Makes sense doesn’t it? (pits & bits included!)

Comment by Laura GF on July 3, 2008 at 10:16 pm

Hair, then arms.

Comment by whimsicalwalney on July 4, 2008 at 10:03 pm

Start with the hair so that the conditioner can sink during the remainder of the shower.
