26.0 things.

Apparently in blog-dom it’s common to post 100 things about yourself on your 100th post, but I’m way past that.  Seriously.

However, I think the tradition is interesting, so here on my 260th post, I’m going to post 26.0 things about myself.  Because, really, I don’t know if I could come up with 100 things anyway without feeling vain.  Here goes:

1. I’m a true red-head.

2. It bothers me that now that I have a daughter with beautiful red hair, some people don’t think my hair looks red anymore.

3. Numbers 1 and 2 may drive me to coloring my hair, but my last experience was quite disastrous, so it might be a while.

4. I was born in Tennessee, and will always consider myself a bit of a southern belle.

5. I love football (college [TN and NE], pro, even high school if I know kids), high school wrestling and NASCAR [Jeff, Jimmie and Jr.]).

6. I didn’t know a thing about wrestling until I started dating Harold and he arranged for me to attend a dual with his best friend from high school, Sam.  Sam taught me most of what I know about wrestling.

7. I don’t enjoy swimming.

8. I love to get up early when no one else is awake and get things done.  Read: TOTAL morning person.

9. I really like cats.  And while I used to be a person who just preferred cats to dogs, I have grown to rather dislike dogs.

10. I love my house.  If I won the lottery, I would do some minor remodeling, but I’d not move to a different house.  I love this one.

11. I’m passionate about Christian education and Moms (or Dads) being home with their kids when they’re little.

12. I really can’t stand Noggin - television for kids.  Little Bear and Dora drive me nuts.

13. I LOVE to paint my nails.  LOVE IT.  I prefer OPI polish.

14. I got a manicure once.  I’ll never let another person do my nails again, ever. (With the exception of Tara, in rainbow colors.)

15. My favorite color is green.

16. I wear white shirts almost every day.

17. I love to sing.  Especially harmony.

18. I plan to live to be 106.  If I die before then, it will come as a big surprise.

19. I’m a planner.  It has taken most my life to learn to embrace (and even love) spontaneity.

20. I almost never eat anything after 8pm.

21. I have a great memory.  There are pros and cons to that.

22. I love teaching middle school.  Science.

23. I miss my former life.  Before kids.

24. I love my kids.

25. I love pizza.  I could eat it every day.  The best is mall pizza.  Cheese.  Thin crust.  But realistically, I’m only picky if I have options.  Pizza is always good.  (Unless it’s some weird new spin on pizza that has a cream sauce, or funny cheese, or pineapple.)

26. Coming up with 26 things about me took me longer than I thought, and the whole time I was thinking, “Does anyone really care?  I’m an open book, everyone knows this stuff already.”  But maybe you didn’t.

Now tell me something about you.

(And come back tomorrow.  I’m doing something REALLY fun, you need to come see.)

Great list! Yes, I knew many of these things about you, but it’s fun to read them. I don’t think I could come up with a list of things that would surprise anyone…. without really, really embarrassing myself.

Your list was great!

About your #7 … does that mean you don’t like to swim OR that you don’t like to watch swimming?
The reason I ask … during the Olympic Trials tonight, two Baltimore swimmers broke World Records - one of them was Michael Phelps. The other was a girl that swims at the same place in Balrimore.

Go USA!! I love watching people do things I could never do! Now if there was an event that involved grading papers, I might have a chance - ha!

Maryland is really serious about swimming. The neighborhood pool where 1/2 of our friends go had a swimmer at the trials this weekend. That’s just crazy-fast.

While I know how, I don’t like to swim. It probably stems from bad childhood memories of horrible sun-poisoning-causing-sunburns and near drownings.

Watching swimming I’m a bit indifferent about. I like most all olympic events because it’s the Olympics, but other than that, I don’t see myself going to a swim meet for fun (unless my kids end up loving to swim, but somehow I doubt they will).

Is your husband a morning person? Mine isn’t. I used to get up and accomplish things and get a little bothered that Leonardo was still in bed. Then one day, I realized that I can do what I want. Now if I want to accomplish things, I do, and if I want to curl up with a book, I do that. And everybody’s happy!

Harold isn’t really a morning or night person. He’s a whenever-whoever-needs-him kind of guy. If he needs to get up early, he’s fine with it. Same for staying up late.
But either way, I do what I want, so there’s no bitterness in my getting up earlier, when I do. Honestly his schedule usually calls for him to be up and gone well before 7am, and I usually get to be an early-riser-do-er on Saturdays while he sleeps in…

Up & gone before 7… that’s an early day!

Ok, since you asked, I’ll start - but just three things.

1. It took me three minutes to begin this list. (It’s harder than it seems.)
2. I never check the oil in my truck.
3. I really like infomercials.

I sometimes just eat a half a cup of brown sugar with a spoon. It’s good with a glass of milk.

Comment by Deanne on June 30, 2008 at 2:46 pm

Half a CUP??!!! Do you have some kind of sugar imbalance in your system??

I get my brown sugar from oatmeal. Maybe you should try some brown-sugar-loaded oatmeal in the morning laced with flaxseed, to change up your schedule and give you an excuse for more brown sugar (but not plain brown sugar).

I always THINK that I won’t be interested in lists of facts about a person, but I get about 2 things into it and I’m hooked. The assortment is interesting. What they choose is interesting.

My favorites on the list are: the one about being surprised if you don’t make it to 106, followed by the one about being a planner; the one about your daughter’s red hair; the one about a great memory having pros and cons; the one about green being your favorite color followed by the one about wearing white shirts.

Okay, I’ll play a little, too…

1) I love hard rock music. Disturbed, System of a Down, Seether. It’s good stuff.

2) Advances in our basic technology happen (system upgrades), so small changes happen. I hate it when people complain about the new way just because it’s different.

3) I love my job.

4) I love that Anna is thrilled to see me when I come home. It makes the worst day the greatest day ever.

5) I’m 17 weeks pregnant today. 23 more to go - God willing.

6) I love Chicago and would have loved the opportunity to live there in a previous life (before kiddos).

7) I love ice cream.

8) I love baking but hate cleaning up afterwards.

9) I miss having a dishwasher.

Okay, on that note, I’m going to stop so I can eat a bowl of ice cream, and then wash dishes.

WOOOHOOOO!!! I had no idea that you were expecting! Congratulations!! And, because I don’t want to do the math…when’s new baby L due?

Whew, I was sweating it for almost half-a-day! I was hoping you’d share the news soon! Let’s see, 23 weeks is about 6 months, a little less, so late December sounds about right, to term, but Anna was early, right?

Comment by Karla on July 2, 2008 at 6:50 am

The big day is December 8. Yes, Anna was early by 2 days, but I was induced. I think she would have been right on schedule, had it not been for Arron taking over the delivery plans.

Actually that was me. We’re all logged into each other’s computers and it has trouble identifying us. We need retina scanners.

Congratulations Karla!! That’s wonderful!!

I love to sing. (although no one loves to listen, except me)

I love all kinds of music (mostly rock too Karla).

I love to dance.

I have A negative blood.

I was at home with my kids until Matt went to kindergarten, then part time until he was in 6th grade.

I believe one of the best gifts you can give your kids is to be a good example.

I love chocolate, sunrises & sunsets, animals & sealife (especially dolphins & daschunds), balloons & party decorations, nature, comedies–even old ones like I Love Lucy & Dick Van Dyke, and there’s nothing better to me than a good conversation with a friend.

Now that my kids are grown, I want to volunteer for more stuff. I’m looking into being a “rocker” at our local hospital & I want to go on the bone marrow transplant list.

This is way easier than I thought … I could go on forever … oops, I think I already have ….
