Dnag it. Part II.

We removed the old dishwasher.  Now we have a gaping hole in the cabinetry.  See:

Big hole. Well, actually only two feet wide, but still.

And as luck would have it, I found a dishwasher on-line that I really liked.  I’m picky about two things: 1) silverware rack must be in the door, 2) must have a high-temp wash option.  I found one meeting both requirements, $300 at Best Buy and Lowes…but neither had it in stock…  On a whim I decided to give Menards a call to see if they had one.  Indeed.  In stock, AND on sale!  $256.  Ehx – cehlll – ent…  I had them hold one until we could get there yesterday afternoon.  And we did.  See:

Beautiful new dishwasher. With a silverware rack in the door.

Unfortunately the hook up could not occur.  First we needed a new plumbing elbow.  The old one could not be removed.  Second, it did not come with an electric line and plug – we need to buy one since we didn’t keep the one from the old washer.  Not being able to hook it up isn’t really a problem…except the water-shut off valve isn’t quite water tight…which fortunately isn’t a problem…unless we want to use the kitchen sink…so I can’t even wash dishes by hand…see:

Good thing we have 16 place settings...

Today, the goal is installation.

(And, happy engagement anniversary to us!  10 years ago today! :D )

I don’t know why you can’t wash your dishes – don’t you have a washing machine just off the kitchen? Put it on ‘delicate’ cycle, throw in a couple of towels to cushion the glassware and you should be just fine.

It’s so beautiful, my eyes are welling up with tears. I wish I had room in my kitchen for one, but as long as I have the Arron 3000, it’s just not going to happen… :(

  3. Karla says:

    P.S. Happy engagement anniversary!

  4. Peggy says:

Congratulations! Hope all goes smoothly today.

I would really like new dishes. I look EVERY time I’m in a store that sells dishes, but nothing is grabbing me. I’ve been looking for at least a year. sigh.

And I’d like a milk keg. I have run out to get milk everyday this weekend, and here I go again. Our 4th gallon since Friday afternoon.

  5. Karla says:

    Isn’t a milk keg called a cow?

    (Insert rim shot here.)

  7. Brad says:

When my kitchen sink was out of commission, I just took all my dishes into the shower with me. It killed two birds with one stone! Plus, I could use the same towel to dry myself and to dry my dishes. Less laundry!

    ;-)

  8. Karla says:

And we should all start calling you Kozmo Kramer now?

  9. Annette says:

By the time you get the elbow and electric line will it still be under $300? It came with racks…right?

  10. Deanne says:

Does this mean that you don’t have an electric dishwasher (vs the human kind?)??

  11. Beth says:

Yes. We were ablet o use the elbow from the former dishwasher ($0) and the electric cord was about $10. Even after tax. :)

  12. Curt says:

So did you get it completely installed? Let me know if you didn’t and I’ll come over and help.

  13. Curt says:

Remind me never to eat salad that Brad has made. I am a germaphobe. “Germs!! Germs!!”

  14. Beth says:

Yes. Up and running – perfectly! Harold did all the plumbing stuff and I did the electrical. We actually completed a home improvement project together…with no battle wounds. Amazing.

  15. Karla says:

Just this weekend I ran some flatware though the washer. It was a couple of Anna’s spoons, so I didn’t hear anything unusual. Arron was really surprised when he moved the laundry to the dryer the next morning! I should probably get more sleep.
