(for sporadic visitors…yes, the title is spelled incorrectly, I did it on purpose)
Our dishwaser is broken. The something-board burned out. I think it’s called the control board, but I’ve been calling it the motherboard. Either way, it’s burned out, and to fix it will cost $265. To buy a new dishwasher is about $300 (but then we have to find someone to install it…for free…Brent? Curt? Benevolent silent lurker?). It’s not really sensible to repair a 10+ year old dishwasher, and I’m spoiled enough having one that I can’t imagine not replacing it (besides, what does one do with a 24 inch gaping hole in the cabinetry when a dishwasher is removed and not replaced?).
We have to get rid of the old one quickly…it has some standing water in it, and it repulses me. The odor. It’s actually the soapy water because it burned out right before the rinse cycle, but it’s a really disturbing odor to my hyper-sensitive olfactory processes.

Stupid broken dishwasher. Stupid needing to buy another one. Stupid, stupid, stupid…
I know it doesn’t help to say “just” when someone hasn’t done a certain kind of installation before, but installing a dishwasher is just connecting a wire, a water supply hose, and a drain hose. If I were there, I’d totally do it for you because it’s not too hard. Just make sure you check and double check the water connections so they don’t leak.
Sorry about the sucky break-down.
Bummer.
Maybe you could hang one of Brad’s worn socks on the dishwasher … you know, as an air-freshener …
Hey, I made a comment an hour ago. Where did it go?
I’ll do a new one – Let’s fly Brad out to install your dishwasher!
You’re right – you should have warned me!
I’m really glad I can’t smell it. That might have made me hurl.
As you’re shopping for a new dishwasher, let me say that you should stay away from the Arron 3000 model. I have one. It’s unreliable; it only starts when there are no more glasses and forks (that’s right, both have to be gone), and once it starts washing, it frequently stops – I find it watching TV or on the computer after washing 2 plates and a bowl. It’s bad news.
Happy shopping!
