Disaster Cake.

I tried a new recipe for Easter.  It was in the Sunday paper and was called, “Yellow Cake with Coconut Glaze”.  I have a new name…Disaster Cake.

It was a yellow cake made from scratch (the first from scratch cake I’ve ever made, I’m a firm believer in box cakes) with this yummy coconut glaze (if you like coconut, but Lloyd said it wasn’t too overpowering).  The glaze was supposed to “set”.  But it didn’t.  And, since it was a layer cake, it ended up all sliding apart, melting the cake sides off and the glaze ended up on the platter…it was a disaster…but it really was delicious!!

The toothpicks were to keep the clingwrap from sticking...I don't know why I cared...

HA! I wasn’t ready for that picture. Thanks for the laugh! Laughing with you of course, not at you. Stuff like that happens to me all the time.

And hey as long as it was delicious, that’s all that counts! Keep creating!

That photo made me chuckle out loud - thanks for sharing!

I say as long as it’s all headed to the same place, who cares what it looks like? This is advice you will NEVER hear on cooking shows.

I love coconut too. The first time I tried to make a fresh coconut cake to surprise my mom, I sliced my finger while opening the coconut. There was a hint of pink color in the icing that day.

Amen. Who cares what it looks like? As long as it’s good - which it was! (I actually think it’s adorable - it looks like a hat.)

It looks like it would be sweet and moist. Mmmmm… Cake soaked in sugary glaze. It sounds like a Krispy Kreme donut. Mmmm… donuts… Maybe I’ll go get some now. I could get a box of Dunkin Donuts Munchkins and eat them for dinner. Mmmm…

Ahh yes - a box of munchkins, a tall glass of milk, and a glass of Merlot!

I hate you for your Dunkin’ Donuts. Hate.

Every time I look at that picture I crack up. What a disaster. May it also bring all of you a laugh :D !

It is indeed a great picture!! I’m putting it in my phone so I can look at it during the dreadful flights.

And I think there’s a great opportunity here. This cake could become the “poster cake” along with some witty saying about not taking life too seriously! It could be as famous as the :)
I’ll work on that when/if I get back.

I just saved the picture to my computer so I could use it in desperate times to cheer me up. But the caption for the picture is what REALLY makes me laugh the hardest!

At least all the icing stayed on the cake board!

Hi Bethtasticians,

A little birdie told me to get over here and have a laugh…I mean…have a look at the disaster cake. Beth, I must admit, first attempts get me everytime, too! That is why there is a Sam’s Club near me.

Stumbled over to your blog from Swistles and have to say — I just laughed SO HARD at this that I a) hyperventilated (a cold will do that to you) b) started crying and c) knocked a day-old starbuck’s latte onto the office carpet. And am STILL laughing! hahahaha Too, too, too funny!
