Cookies that even Lauren could eat “raw”.
These are Canadian cookies. That’s what my family has always called them. Harold grew up calling them “boiled cookies”, but that just grosses me out – boiling is for noodles and eggs, not cookies for goodness sake! And I have also heard them called “No bake cookies”, but that doesn’t sound as appetizing and might frighten away someone like Lauren who has an aversion to the un-cooked.
There are two things about these cookies that make them special. First, there is NO PEANUT BUTTER in my recipe. I’ve had these other places, and they are almost always ruined by the addition of peanut butter. Peanut butter is for sandwiches, not Canadian cookies. Second, I have been mastering the art of making them so they never actually get hard – they stay gooey and must be eaten with a spoon off of the foil. In the end, I ususally just make a batch so I can eat about six cookies worth right out of the pan while it’s still almost burning hot…mmmm…gooey, chocolatey, oatmealy, hot, goodness….mmmmm…

Please don’t take this wrong … if you say they’re delicious I know they are … but they look like, well …. dog crap … hot fresh dog crap.
I would like the recipe for your dog crap, please.
Canadian cookies rock! How do you keep them soft? I would pay dearly for that information. Or I would at least be grateful. Or at least I would say “Thank you”.
Canadian Cookies
2 c. sugar
1 stick butter (use butter, margarine sucks)
1/2 cup milk
Bring to a boil. Remove from heat. Add:
3 c. oatmeal
3-4 Tbsp cocoa powder
1 tsp. vanilla (or just dump some in)
Pinch of salt (just shake the shaker over the pan a few times)
Stir.
Drop on foil, but make sure you leave enough in the bottom of the pan to eat with a spoon and have a cold glass of milk. Consider this your oatmeal serving for the day, yummy, chocolatey, oatmeal…mmm…
“Dog crap! Get your fresh hot dog crap! Right over here, folks, hot outta the dog!”
You would do very poorly in a kidnapping situation.
I just finished making some myself. Mmmm…
OK – so save me one (or two.) I’ll have them with my coffee Monday morning before tackling school work.
Me too … just a quarter cookie would be nice.
UPDATE: Yikes – just ONE of those cookies and I couldn’t decide if I needed a nap or a glass of milk (I don’t even drink milk.) It was yummy and now I can’t wait for tomorrow morning so I can eat the other one. I actually had to bite it off of the foil – is that the usual way to eat them?
Yes, eating them off the foil is the BEST and most perfect way to eat Canadian Cookies. You have arrived.
Bite your tongue!!! Peanut butter is good in these. You can put peanut butter in a lot of things, not just sandwiches. Mmmmmm….peanut butter. Oh, and I thought they looked like grilled hamburgers.
