The sun’s rays shine on us…

Isn’t this a great picture?  Actually the picture doesn’t do it justice.  I was driving home from Lincoln last week and took this picture.  There were these very cool sun rays bursting through the bottom of this storm cloud and shining right on Seward straight ahead of me.

I really do love small town life, and I really do love Seward.  It’s a great place to live.  I like that everyone seems to know everyone, and that we don’t have a mall with big department stores, but Lincoln is just down the road.  I even like that if you want a nice dinner out, we only have one place to pick from.  I like that our kids will be able to walk to school, and the six blocks between here and there have a home that’s familiar (occupied by friends/church members) nearly every other house.  I like that we can walk to the grocery store, or the bank, or Hallmark, or the post office.  I like that every once in a while when we get a freak thunderstorm, a friend who was out walking will stop in and ask for a towel while they wait out the storm.  And, I like that we live in a house that will be referred to as “The Einspahr’s” for as long as we live here, and it won’t be “The Pester’s” until we’re gone and someone else has moved in…it’s good to live in a small town.

Shine on!

Nice description. Your picture once again shows a spotless Nebraska. They should put this text on the Seward Chamber of Commerce page. You’d be a good PR person. Maybe they’d pay you!

I like Seward too. But I’ve grown to like this city, rats and all. Plus, we have IKEA. (Sorry to play that card, but something has to make up for the drug dealing and opressive taxes.)

Ok … I’m putting the For Sale sign on my lawn today … Seward here I come!

(I’m glad you didn’t have to try to kill yourself like George Bailey to appreciate your small town wonderful life!

I don’t know what it was like in TN, but in MO while I was growing up the sides of the road were, well, littered with trash. Every road looked bad. We made decent (for a kid) money by collecting cans from the road near our house.

Then came Woodsy Owl and the Sad Indian and Adopt a Hiway and things really did get a lot better. I’m often surprised when I look along the side of the road and it doesn’t look like I remember from childhood.

Are you sure that the light isn’t for the guy in the truck? Maybe he’s the pope.

I am familiar with Woodsy Owl and Adopt a Highway, but who is the Sad Indian??? How OLD are you, Lloyd?

You can see it here at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3QKvEy0AIk An Indian is going around shocked at how people treat the earth, then he cries after someone dumps trash at his feet. They re-enacted it for Wayne’s World, and Wayne and Garth had trash bags and picks and said, “Don’t worry, man – we’ll clean it up!”
