The Mart.

We went on an adventure today to visit my Grandma and stop at THE Nebraska Furniture Mart.  Apparently the hip thing to do is call it “The Mart”…all the clerks were doing it, and they named their credit card, “The Mart Card”.  Thus the title.

 The Mart.

It was mostly a pleasant experience.  We went right to the dinette sets.  Mom wanted to find a glass top table for their new kitchen, and wouldn’t you know it, the very first one we looked at was on clearance marked down from $489 to $199 for a table and four chairs, amazing!  They bought it (after we hovered around a bit to make sure the old ladies there right before us didn’t buy it).  Unfortunately in all the excitement, I forgot to take a picture of it…but here’s the showroom.

The Showroom. It really is as gigantic as it looks.

The unpleasant part was the vulturous sales people.  The lady that started following us around would have been fine, if she would have let me or Mom say anything without interrupting us.  The last straw was when we were trying to talk about the configuration of the TV room in which Mom wants a double recliner, desk and TV and she butted in to announce that she was a “decorator” and she could tell us just where everything should go.  I refrained from saying, “Listen, Mimi (that really was her name), if you’re such a de-cor-a-tor, what the heck are you doing selling furniture?”  Instead, I just walked away.

Nebraska Furniture Mart is awesome! It is my second, no – third, no – fourth favorite store to look around! (IKEA, The Container Store, Restoration Hardware are the top three) I’m in agreement about the salespeople. They ruin the experience. The guy who helped us buy our couch looked like Boris Karloff, and was very vulture-like.

You should ask Lloyd what he does when vultures attack at a store. “Stop talking now!” hehe

I seriously considered saying that to Mimi. And then I thought about saying, “Could we please have your card. If we want to buy anything, we’ll buy through you, but we would like to shop in peace.” That’s what I think I’ll do next time. It’s polite, they get the business, and we can tell all the other vultures that we’re already working with someone. Have any of you ever tried something like that?
