We went out to eat for dinner tonight. There are a ton of little town bars around this area. In fact, I highly recommend a bar tour of West Lancaster and all of Seward county, it’s totally worth it.
Tonight we went to the Branched Oak Inn in Malcolm (about 20 minutes east of Seward, for those of you not familliar with the area). It has great food (seriously great, and the most amazing Ranch dressing), but it’s in the basement of a building, so the atmosphere reminds me of the bar on “Cheers”. See:

The inside has dim lighting, all coming from Tiffany style lamps – quite hilarious for a bar in a town the size of a postage stamp:

Again, great food…you should go.
How did you get such non-blurry pictures in the dark? And congrats on getting so many pictures in a public place. I sometimes feel like a crazy person taking my camera out in public like that.
The dark pictures were really a first attempt…I’m not exactly a talented photographer. I just turned off the flash so people didn’t think I was nuts and took some pictures.
When I got outside, the first picture I used a flash and it looked terrible, so I just turned the flash off again… voila! (That’s how you spell, wa-la, isn’t it?)
Don’t you just love it when you find a great little place like this! There’s a little bar in Balto. (literally in the basement of a house) that has the BEST EVER crab pretzels for only $6.95 (do Nebraskians know what they are?).
Or in Gettysburg there’s the Dobbin Tavern which is in the basement of a historical house that is all candlelit & the waitresses wear period clothes …. great food too! You can wander upstairs (there are secret hiding places in the walls where slaves used to hide). Wait, what am I doing in all these basements? Am I part rat?
Well, it is almost lunch time … mmmmmmmm. crab pretzels!!!
Where is that crab pretzel place? My favorite crab pretzels are from Silver Spring Mining Company. I would love to try this other place.
Yes, Silver Spring Mining Company’s are good too. This place is called the Dug Out. I know how to get there, but I don’t know the name of the road (I’ll work on that). It’s north of White Marsh. Warning, Will Robinson … it looks like someone’s basement, so if you’re looking for a fancy atmosphere, you won’t find it here. It’s apparently a neighborhood bar, ’cause the times I’ve been there, everyone kinda stares. But hey, I’m there for the crab pretzels!
What the heck is a crab pretzel?
I think it is also the community tornado shelter! When life hands you a tornado, make great food!
